Ceuta, the gateway to Africa, a unique city where you will discover how the scents of two different seas, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean, blend with the exotic perfume of the African continent.Ceuta enjoys a marine environmental heritage that is unique in the EU, because in a relatively small area it brings together a great variety of Mediterranean and Atlantic species.
An ideal setting for the practise of all sorts of sports related with the sea- diving, fishing, kayaking, sailing, etc..., or just enjoying a trip on a tourist vessel.
The great diversity of flora and fauna, the richness in species such as red coral or leatherback turtle and the incomparable climate make our offshore waters the most interesting in Spain and in the Mediterranean area.
The richness and diversity of the waters of Ceuta make the city an ideal base for sea fishing, probably the Spanish city whose waters contain the greatest variety of species for fishing, which can be practised in several ways.
The beauty of the coast of Ceuta and the neighbouring North African coast can be enjoyed from kayaks, offering an unforgettable viewpoint for our visitors. A relaxing trip on the waves, with views of the mountain of La Mujer Muerta (the “Dead Woman”) or the royal defensive walls, make for an incomparable tourist excursion.
It is so close that you can see it from any balcony overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar: it comprises 22 square kilometres of tradition, varied cuisine, festivals, and modern facilities; but these do not obscure the highly prized legacy bequeathed to us by the people who have left there indelible mark throughout the thousands of years of our history: the Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, Marinids and Portugueses, just to name a few.
Just 40 kilometres from the Costa del Sol, visitor will find its infinite contrasts and evocative nuances make Ceuta an extremely beautiful place, a place you must not miss.Gateway to two continents, meeting place for two seas and melting pot of four cultures.
Yes! Spain in Africa! Ceuta is a modern Spanish city and forms the southern border of the European Union with our neighbouring country: Morocco.
The city´s rich history and culture has given rise to the presence of four religions, making Ceuta a melting pot where citizens of different faiths live together: Christians and Muslims ( the most numerous communities) and Jews and Hindus. They are citizens with their own idiosyncrasies; Afro-Spanish between two Andalusias, living in a small city, but one with a cosmopolitan calling.
